Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? We've got answers.

GPS stands for Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling. It's the main English paper in Key Stage 2 SATs, testing children's knowledge of language mechanics. The GPS paper includes multiple-choice questions, short answer questions, and one longer spelling test (administered separately by the teacher).
The KS2 SATs English consists of three papers totalling 2 hours 20 minutes: the GPS paper (45 minutes), a separate spelling test (approximately 15 minutes, administered by the teacher), and a reading comprehension paper (60 minutes).
Children need to achieve the "expected standard" to pass. This is typically a scaled score of 100+, which equates to roughly 55% of total marks. However, the exact percentage varies slightly year to year based on paper difficulty. National pass rate is around 72%.
KS2 SATs are annual assessments, so children take them once in May of Year 6. There is no formal retake, as children progress to secondary school. However, if a child did not reach the expected standard, schools will typically provide additional support in their secondary school.
Yes. All of our questions are written to match the exact format, difficulty, and style of the official KS2 SATs papers. Our 5 mock papers are full-length, realistic assessments that simulate real exam conditions, helping children understand what to expect on the day.
Start with our progress tracking to identify weaker topic areas, then focus practice there. Use the mock papers under timed conditions (matching real exam time limits) so your child gets used to pacing. Read the explanations together—understanding why an answer is correct is just as important as getting it right.
